But one of the easiest places for the film to pay homage to the many, many other comic-book creatives who helped shape the Spider-Man legacy is the Davis family’s contacts lists, which we see when both Miles and his dad scroll through their phones.

Sony is so pleased with the film’s distinct style, that the studio is taking the unprecedented move to try to patent the innovative technologies used on Into the Spider-Verse. The Spider-Verse poster will remain on sale through Sunday, January 27 at 11:59 p.m. Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli, Robbi Rodriguez, and more also contributed actual art for the film to ensure a hand-drawn look was laid over its C.G.I. Later, an Erik Larsen design takes us into the Jake Johnson Peter Parker’s backstory. The film also uses actual, literal comic-book covers, like when Chris Pine’s Peter Parker starts narrating his backstory and a real Keith Pollard cover slaps down on the screen.
